The Spiritual Meaning of Tzitzit
Fringes. Knotted fringes, specifically. The Hebrew word "tzitzit" literally means fringes. God commanded the Israelites to attach them to the four corners of their garments. That's in Numbers 15:37-40. Directly from the Torah. The purpose? So you'd look at them and remember all of God's commandments. Every. Single. One.
This part is incredible. The numerical value of the Hebrew letters in "tzitzit" equals 600. Each fringe has 8 threads and 5 knots. Add those up: 600 + 8 + 5 = 613. That's the exact number of commandments in the Torah. Coincidence? Not even close. Every knot is deliberate.
The Torah mentions a blue thread (called "tekhelet" in Hebrew). Blue represents the sky. The sky points to God's throne. So the blue thread is a visual chain from your clothing to the heavens. The longer blue Messiah thread in our sets carries additional symbolism for Messianic believers, pointing to Yeshua's fulfillment of the law.
How to Choose the Right Tzitzit
Not sure which set to grab? Here's how to decide:
Cotton vs. Wool
Cotton is lighter, more affordable, and great for everyday use. Wool is more traditional and considered ideal under Jewish law. Budget-friendly? Cotton. Maximum authenticity? Wool. Both work.
Pre-Tied vs. Strings
Most people want pre-tied sets. Four tassels, ready to attach. Done. But if you prefer tying your own (some see the act of tying as part of the mitzvah), grab a set of 16 wool strings instead.
With Hooks vs. Without
Wearing them on a tallit katan under your shirt? Hooks make it easy. Clip on, clip off. Attaching them to a prayer shawl permanently? You might not need hooks. Think about where they're going before you buy.
Thread Color
Royal blue is deeper. Bolder. Sky blue is lighter, more subtle. Off-white wool has no blue thread at all. Pick what matches your practice and preference.

Frequently Asked Questions
Our tzitzit are made with proper materials and thread counts. They meet the requirements that most observant Jews follow. That said, if you have very specific halachic standards from your community, always check with your rabbi. We're confident in the quality. But your rabbi has the final word.
Grab our 100% thin wool string set. You get 16 strands, which is enough to redo all four corners. Tie them according to your tradition's method. There are specific knotting patterns, and your rabbi or community leader can guide you. But the strings themselves? We've got them.
Yes. Absolutely. That's what the hook versions are for. Clip them to your jeans, pants, or belt loops. Some people wear them visibly outside their clothing. Others tuck them in. Your choice. The commandment is to wear them. How they show up is up to you.
Right here at Holy Land Market. We carry both Messianic tallits and Judaica tallits in multiple sizes and colors. Buy a tallit online, and we'll ship it straight to you. Free shipping in the US. Worldwide shipping too. Easy.
Same place. Our tallits come with tzitzit already attached. But if you need replacement tzitzit or extra sets, you can buy them separately right here in our tzitzit collection. One order. Everything you need.
Cotton is lighter, more affordable, and easier to maintain. Wool is the traditional material mentioned in Jewish law. It's thicker and considered more authentic. Both are completely valid. Cotton for everyday convenience. Wool for maximum tradition.
The longer blue thread in each set. It represents the biblical tekhelet (blue dye) commanded in the Torah. For Messianic believers, the longer thread also symbolizes Yeshua's fulfillment of the law. It's what makes our tzitzit specifically Messianic.
