The Ark of the Covenant is a sign of enduring faith. It is a symbol of the unwavering faith the Israelites had in God. It is also a sign of God’s love for His people. According to the Old Testament, He commanded Moses to build the Ark so that He could live among His people and grace them with His presence. For millennia, the history of the Ark has remained one of the most discussed topics among believers and the legends associated with the Ark have inspired millions of people all over the world.
At Holy Land Market, we offer high-quality gold plated Ark of the Covenant replicas that are made by devout believers from the Holy Land. Our Ark of the Covenant kit includes the Aaron rod, a vessel of manna, Ten Commandments tablets, and a card that explains detailed information about the history and significance of the Ark and its contents.
The Significance of the Ark of the Covenant
Exodus 25 says that God wanted the Israelites to build a sanctuary so that He could live among His people. He gave detailed instructions to Moses on how the Ark should be built, what it should be built with, how it should be transported, and who should transport it.
Once created, the Ark became a symbol of God’s presence – literally as well as figuratively. It was a literal symbol, because God Himself stated in Exodus 25:22 that He will hover over the Ark and command the Israelites. It was also a figurative symbol, as it contained the Ten Commandments, which are the foundational principles of Judaism as well as Christianity.
Apart from the Ten Commandments, the Ark of the Covenant also contained a jar of manna and Aaron’s rod. The jar of manna was placed by Aaron as a remembrance of the sustenance God provided to His people. When Aaron was chosen as the High Priest, God approved and made his rod blossom with flowers and almonds.
More importantly, the Ark was – and it still remains – the first and only manmade object considered to be sacred and holy by the Jewish people. It is remarkable, as worshipping or venerating physical manifestations of God is strictly prohibited in Judaism. In fact, the history of Judaism starts with Abraham, who was an iconoclast who opposed the prevalent notions of spirituality in Babylonia – which involved idol worship.
However, the Israelites venerated the Ark, as it was built under the explicit command of God and per His exact instructions, down to every detail. So, even though it was manmade, it was willed into existence by God. It continues to remain the only worldly object worthy of reverence in Jewish faith.
Miracles of the Ark of the Covenant
Joshua 3:7 states that when the priests carrying the Ark stepped into the water, the flow of the water stopped immediately and the river parted so that the Israelites could get to the other side. The river remained still until everyone got to the other side, after which it started flowing again. It was God’s will – which was manifested through the Ark – that allowed the Israelites to cross the river and get to the Promised Land.
In the Battle of Jericho, the priests carried the Ark and marched around the wall of Jericho for six days. On the seventh day, when the priests gave a loud shout, the wall came down, which allowed the Israelites to take control of the city.
What Does the Ark of the Covenant Teach Us?
When the Israelites obeyed God’s commands dutifully, He protected them against evil and harm, as witnessed in the miraculous crossing of the Jordan River and in the Battle of Jericho.
At the same time, when people failed to obey His commands, God punished them severely. For instance, Aaron’s sons were killed when they tried to enter God’s dwelling against His commands.
It shows that fearing God and obeying His commands is the primary duty of a believer. Rebelling against God or failing to obey His commands can bring pain and misery.
